Gelli Plates and Pom Poms!

Having got a Gelli plate and some pom pom makers for Christmas I have been experimenting and thoroughly enjoying myself. My house is awash with pom poms and prints and so I decided to combine the two and make a book. Here is the result!

Barnsley Museum Sesson 30th Dec 2014

Over the Christmas holidays I was asked to come and deliver a drop in session at Barnsley Experience Museum. I was placed in the middle of the exhibits and people could wander along and take part. I was making little mini 12 page journals with them to be used as little new years resolution books. The session turned out to be quite popular for all ages and I thoughougly enjoyed it. All in all I was really pleased with how the session went and hope to have another session planned with the Museum in the near future!

Workshop session 6th Dec 2014

My Sample Page

Journal pages from the class!
This week the prompt was family tradition. The majority of people chose christmas tradition given the time of year. We used a lot of mark making techniques with bubble wrap and string. We also had a go with some crackle paint and using shapes to mask certain areas. I included a challenge to use old tea bags to create texture. The text I used is taken from my favourite Christmas song.

Workshop session 29th Nov 2014

My Sample Page
The prompt for this session was 'Secret Wish' We used techniques such as gesso transfers and spray painting through lace. We all included a hidden door and also a secret wish. Mine was written and then sewed into the lace hearts.

Workshop Session 22nd Nov 2014

Thank you for ......
In this session the prompt was 'Thank you for...' We used layering techniques, starting with gesso and acrylic, then stencils, then we did rubbings on tissue paper and added these over the top. Finally we stencilled in white. We also created frames from cereal boxes to create a feature and added text to finish.

Workshop session 15th Nov 2014

For this session I chose the prompt 'Would you Rather' and we used various techniques to make our pages including subtractive stencilling which didn't exactly go to plan but as is the way with art journaling you go with whatever happens and make it work. We also did some paint blowing with straws using a constrasting colour.

For the figure we used magazine images, stuck down and then painted over firstly with gesso and then with acrylic. We finished the page with text.
