Another Journal!

This is a quick one I made for my daughter. The cover is a fruit bar box and the pages are pieces of her own old art work. I tried out a different binding technique for this which worked well particularly for its size.

Journal Workshop 23rd August

I delivered a 5 hour session with lunch included at Sharrow Vale School of Art. We made journal covers from old cereal boxes.

First we used stencils and gesso straight on to the cardboard and while they were drying we made our own figurative stencils.

We added a layer of gesso to our covers and left them to dry while making tin foil and paper mache embellishments.

We added colour with tissue paper and by scraping paint and blending with baby wipes, and used our homemade stencils.

After lunch we added details with stamps and washi tape and collaged the inside.

I demonstrated how to make signatures and bind these into the cover. We did not have time to do this in the session but I hope to get some photos of the finished journals from my class soon. The picture above is my own cover, I will post more photos of the completed journal hopefully in a few days.

All in all the session went well and I really enjoyed seeing how different all the covers turned out.
