Weekend Work

Hi All,

I was a very busy bee this weekend, as well as running my workshop I also got down to some work of my own.

Be True To Me
I made some new handmade stencils and my brushos and spray inks arrived so couldn't wait to have a play and I made a mixed media background and then really felt like painting so did this lady. The text reflects how I feel at the moment, that I need to be true to myself.

With the leftover paint etc I made this little ICAD which I really like.

I also completed and sent off my Art swap for this month. The theme was 'Something beginning with the first letter of your name' I was really pleased with what I produced but I will wait for confirmation from Kim from Virginia that she has received it before I post up a piccy.

I also managed to get nine of my journals bound! Altogether a very productive, art filled weekend, Lovely :)

Bye for now!

Workshop Session 27th June 2015

Hi All,

Yesterday I ran my first of four workshops, this one was called 'Ten good Things'. I started by getting the group to prepare their pages with gesso and by scraping acrylic paint on to this with cards. Then they made a collage sheet with whatever materials they liked and then cut these into 10 shapes. Sticking these onto the page they added text into each shape, ten good things to them. We also made paperclip embellishments with the left over collage sheets and added doodling, text and titles to finish the pages.

The session went really well, looking forward to next week!

Looking Back

Hi All,

During the last few weeks I have been thinking a lot about my artwork. What exactly is 'my' style, what do I go to first, what materials do I favour most? I have been journaling for about 11 years or so now and looking back at old journals I have definitley come a long way. There are things I have moved on from, things I had forgotten about and would like to re-visit but I suppose what is clear is that I am still discovering, exploring and learning. I am still developing myself and I suppose I always will be.

I spend quite a bit of time designing and planning workshops which I love love love! but I have to tailor these to all abilities and the prompts I use have to be suitable for everyone, rather than working specifically on what is going on in my own life.... what I guess i'm saying is, I need to make a promise to myself to find time for my own stuff too. The work I have done lately has been so good for me and I have really been enjoying it and feeling inspired.

here is a page from my old journal that has aspects in that I would like to re-visit, It represents a panic attack.

This is a little darker than my current work but I was going through some stuff.  I did some spill writing then made my own paper from newspapers and junk mail with fibres in it. I then burned a hole in it so that only the two words are visable. It really expresses how I was feeling at the time and that knotted fiery feeling you get from a panic attack. What I like about it is the idea of hiding the journal entry and just showing a key word and I would like to try using handmade paper again. Art journaling can be used so well as a therapy so express your emotions and in doing so overcome them, this one definitely did that for me.

Bye for now :)

Time Capsule

Hi All,

So I finished planning my workshop taking place on 4th July at the Sharrowvale School of Art in Sheffield and for this session I am using an idea from the wonderful Jenn Garman. If you don't know Jenn's work, it's fantastic, you can check it out here http://jenngarman.com/.

In this session I will be demonstrating some of the techniques I have been playing around with lately using wax paper, and creating time capsule letters.

Here is a sneaky peek at my sample page.

Experimenting!

Hello All,

Busy busy busy lately and feeling really inspired at the mo. I have so many ideas I don't know where to start. In planning my latest workshops I decided to have a go experimenting with some wax paper. I have meant to do this for ages so I decided that if I had a go and it went well I would use it for one of the sessions. Wax paper is not really that easy to get hold of in the UK. It certainly isn't in every supermarket so I decided to just get some off the internet.

I really enjoyed the results so far, although I think I have only just scratched the surface. Here is a little ICAD I made with some of the results.

I also made a little video of this one;

I am still working on a little video of the experiments themselves, so should be able to post this in a few days.

I have also ordered some new equipment including some Brushos which I am really excited about and can't wait to start experimenting with these too! Busy Busy! See you soon xx

Example page "10 Good Things"

Hi All,

I have been very busy lately with lots of different projects! Last night I finished planning my first workshop session, taking place on 27th June at the Sharrowvale School of Art in Sheffield. This first session is called "10 Good Things" and that is obviously up to the individual to interpret.
I decided for my sample page to create a page about my husband and list 10 good things about him. So here is a sneaky peek at my sample page and also of the little paperclip embellishment which is one of the techniques I will be demonstrating at the workshop.

Journals

Hello All,

I have been very busy this last week with all sorts. I have gotten quite far in planning my Art Journaling workshops and finally made a start on the many journals I need to make for the Dovefest craft stall. Here is a picture of my progress so far.

These are just the covers so far. I am using variety size cereal boxes as the base and covering them in various geli prints. I like how they all come out so different! Many more covers to go and then binding the signitures in.
I will try to find time to do some more painting soon and get my monthly challenge done. more to come! x

Experimenting

Hi All,

Last night I decided to put my planning aside and just have some time to myself experimenting with some mark making and having a play with some new stamps and pens that I bought recently. I am really pleased with how it turned out! Sometimes it just feels good to play around with the materials without anything in mind. I find it very theraputic aswell, I can feel myself relaxing as I work.

Earlier this week I received my parcel from Reeah and it's lovely! It was a real pleasure to swap with Reeah and we had a nice time, emailing and chatting about things. She also included a bundle of extra stuff, stickers, postits, pens etc which was a really lovely surprise! I felt like a kid at Christmas.

Now back to planning and commission work! xx

May Art Swap

Hello All!,

I haven't posted for a while as I was away camping with my family and I was waiting until I had confirmation that my swap partner for May, Reeah from South Carolina, had received my piece.

The theme this time was banner/bunting and we had to create 5 flags of standard size, here is what I made!

The poem is by Maya Angelou and inspired the piece really. I chose some little songbirds and painted over them on mixed media backgrounds and added homemade paper flowers and some ribbon and lace.

Here is my response from the lovely Reeah:

From Maria Meade to Lisa Goddard

I received your swap package you sent today and I have to tell you  . . .       I JUST LOVE IT!!!
The birds, the colors, the backgrounds, I could go on and on but suffice to say it is just beautiful Lisa!  I thank you with all my heart. I showed it to my whole family and even my 15 yr old son likes it and he's at that age where he doesn't like anything I show him, LOL!
I will post the pics I took of it tomorrow.  It's late and I'm pooped for today, ha, ha :-)
Oh!  I can't go without telling you that I was just taken back by the hand stitching you did with the ribbon!  I was just blown away with that and the lace on the bottoms!  Just gorgeous.  I already have it hanging on my lace curtain that's on my window right next to where I sit in my Art Room.  The ATC is just beautiful as well.  I love it all and I thank you very much!!!
Big Hugs!!
Reeah.

I have really enjoyed having Reeah as a swap partner and sending emails to one another, It is a great feeling sending my work across the sea and to have it so appreciated! I have also made a vid of me making these which I will post up in a bit!
